HP Smart Tank 6001
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Setup HP Smart Tank 6001, nothing but trouble so far. Finally got it detected by WIFI, printed Information sheet fine, Alignment sheet fine, about 3-4 passes of my first print job and said Printer Head Failure(in smart app) and showed both Head Icons in the display. HP "help" just says service unavailable when I try to enter my serial number to get HP help.  I've been trying for 5 days. In the meantime, I decided to go ahead and buy new printer heads. Installed them and got the same result. Printed 3-4 passes and then printer head errors.  If I keep taking them in and out I can manage to get a few things printed but it is a nuisance and the color isn't always right. Sometimes they have lines, sometimes big black marks, other times they are perfect.

Can anyone provide some insight on how to resolve this? Please and Thank you in advance.

Hi @lauraobee,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing persistent print head issues with your HP Smart Tank 6001 printer despite replacing the print heads. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Clean the Print Heads: Sometimes, print heads can become clogged with dried ink or debris, leading to print quality issues. Most printers have a cleaning utility that can be accessed through the printer's settings menu. Use this utility to clean the print heads and see if it improves print quality.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, firmware updates include bug fixes and improvements that can address issues like print head failures.
  • Inspect the Cartridges: Make sure the ink cartridges are properly installed and securely seated in their respective slots. Sometimes, loose or improperly installed cartridges can cause print head errors.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Even a small piece of paper stuck in the printer can cause issues with print quality and print head functionality. Open all access doors and remove any paper jams or obstructions you find.
  • Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer and resolve temporary issues.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there's a more serious hardware problem with your printer

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have tried all of these solutions and it is still giving me the error after a couple pages. If it’s hardware issues, wouldn’t that fall under warranty? How do I get ahold of HP when all I keep getting is “service unavailable” when I try to use “contact us” on the HP website.  Thank you for your help!
