I have tried to setup my HP Smart Tank 6001 many times and it always fails at the "finding IP address" stage. I've reset my router, gotten a new router, etc., but nothing has worked.

Hi @HStewart1,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand it sounds frustrating, but let's try a few things to resolve the issue of your HP Smart Tank 6001 not being able to find the IP address:

Check Wi-Fi Connection: Ensure that your printer and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Sometimes the printer may be connected to a different network, which can cause the setup process to fail.

Manually Set IP Address:

  • On the printer, use the control panel to navigate to the Network or Wireless settings.
  • Choose the Advanced Settings (if available), and select Manual IP Configuration.
  • Enter a static IP address, subnet mask, and gateway. You can find the gateway address on your router, and make sure the static IP is in the same range as your router's IP.

Reset the Printer's Network Settings:

  • On the printer, press and hold the Wireless button until it flashes.
  • Then, press and hold the Cancel button for about 5 seconds to reset the printer’s network settings to factory defaults.
  • Try setting it up again using the HP Smart app.

Install using USB: If the wireless setup is still problematic, try installing the printer via USB first. Once the printer is set up via USB, you can switch it to wireless mode through the printer settings.

Check Router Settings: Sometimes routers have settings that may block devices from connecting. Ensure that your router’s firewall or security settings (e.g., MAC filtering or AP isolation) are not preventing the printer from connecting. If you're unsure about this, refer to your router's manual

Try Connecting to a Different Network: If possible, try setting the printer up on a different Wi-Fi network to see if it is an issue with your current router.

After trying these steps, let me know how it goes!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
