Microsoft Windows 11

I've just bought my HP Smart Tank 7005 and I want to print some photos from the small top tray but the printer is only recognising the main printer tray.   I've been through the setup procedure (I think!).   please can someone help.

Hi @2Roy5,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Smart Tank 7005 printer is not recognizing the small photo tray and only using the main paper tray, here’s a detailed guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

**1. Check Printer Setup and Tray Configuration

  1. Ensure the small photo tray is properly installed. It should be securely seated in the printer’s tray area.
  2. Check for any obstructions or misalignment.
  3. Make sure the photo paper size in the small tray matches the size settings in the printer’s software and control panel.
  4. Adjust the paper guides in the photo tray to fit the paper size correctly.

**2. Configure Paper Tray Settings in Printer Software

  1. Launch the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.Select your HP Smart Tank 7005 printer.
  2. Go to Printer Settings or Print Settings.Look for an option related to Paper Source or Paper Tray Settings.
  3. Ensure that the photo tray is selected as the default or as an option for photo printing.

**3. Check Printer Control Panel Settings

  • Select the Paper Tray:
    1. On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Settings > Paper Handling or a similar menu.Look for Paper Tray or Paper Source settings.Set the photo tray as the preferred paper source or select it when printing photos.

**4. Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for Updates:
    1. Ensure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date.You can update the firmware through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP Support website.

**5. Use Printer-Specific Printing Options

  1. When printing a photo, use the HP Smart app or your preferred application.Choose the photo tray as the paper source in the print dialog.
  2. Go to File > Print on your computer.Select Printer Properties or Preferences.Under Paper Source, select the photo tray.

**6. Perform a Printer Reset

  1. Sometimes resetting the printer to factory settings can resolve issues. On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults or similar options.

**7. Check for Hardware Issue:

  1. Ensure there are no physical obstructions or paper jams in the photo tray area.Remove and reinstall the photo tray, checking for proper alignment.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
