My brand new printer is stuck with the message "The HP software is setting up your printer..." for over an hour.  I have tried all the posted solutions - remove print cartridges, remove power, etc.  How do I factory reset this brick and start over? Not a great first "out of the box" experience.  Ready to return it and buy another brand.

Hi @Shnarfdog,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your frustration with the situation. It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 7600 is experiencing a software setup issue. Before resorting to returning the printer, let's try a few more troubleshooting steps, including performing a factory reset if necessary.

Here's how you can try to resolve the issue and possibly factory reset your HP Smart Tank 7600.

  • Power Cycle: Disconnect the power cable from the printer, wait for about a minute, and then reconnect it. Power on the printer and see if it progresses past the setup message.
  • Check Connections: Ensure all cables are securely connected to the printer and to the power source.
  • Network Connection: If your printer is connected to a network, ensure that the network connection is stable. Sometimes, issues with the network can cause setup processes to stall.
  • Reset Printer: To perform a factory reset on your HP Smart Tank 7600, you might need to access the printer's control panel menu. Unfortunately, the exact steps can vary depending on the printer model. Typically, you would navigate through the printer's menu to find the "Restore Factory Defaults" or "Reset All Settings" option. Refer to your printer's manual or HP's support website for specific instructions on how to perform a factory reset for your model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @wheeledo59,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 7600 is stuck during the initial setup process, and you're unable to proceed or reset the printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Steps to Resolve Stuck Setup:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router and that your network is stable.
  • Try connecting your printer to the network again using the HP Smart app on your laptop, iPad, or phone.

Use the HP Smart App:

  • Download and install the HP Smart app on your device if you haven't already.
  • Open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your printer. Make sure you are connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the printer.

Perform a Partial Reset:

  • While the printer is powered on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Wait for 30 seconds, then reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
  • This might help reset any temporary issues.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor on your computer. This tool can diagnose and fix common setup and connectivity issues.

Kindly find the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @wheeledo59,

Please find the next set of steps below.

Clear Print Queue and Reinstall Software:

  • Ensure that there are no pending print jobs in the print queue.
  • Uninstall the HP printer software from your computer.
  • Download the latest software from the HP Support website and reinstall it.

Factory Reset (if accessible):

Since the printer screen is stuck, accessing the factory reset might be challenging. If the above steps don't work, you might need to perform a factory reset if you can access the necessary menus:

Unplug the Power Cord:

  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still on.
  • Wait for at least 30 seconds.

Plug in and Turn On:

  • Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

Access Reset Options (if available):

  • If the printer's touchscreen becomes responsive, navigate to the setup or settings menu and look for options like Restore Factory Defaults or Reset Settings.

If none of the above steps work and you're unable to complete the setup, it might be best to contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
