HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 11

As regards this out-of-the-box new HP Smart Tank 7602 All-In-1 printer, it will not reconnect to the Wi-Fi network (static network name on a garden-variety AT&T Nokia BGW320-505 Residential Gateway, on a very simple home network) after waking up from sleep mode and / or shutting down, either by timing-out or by manually using the power button. (The printer is line-of-sight to the modem and about 15 feet away from it with nothing in between) I have verified this multiple times over a couple of days. Each time I am required to turn the Wi-Fi slider off and back on again manually after going through the pages of the menu on the control panel. It immediately discovers (and connects to) the network name and works fine until it is turned off. This does not happen when it's directly connected to the network via a Cat 6 network patch cable, but only when it's connected via Wi-Fi. The printer has also been updated to the latest firmware release as well. Other than this one defect, everything else works flawlessly, but it nearly defeats the purpose of having Wi-Fi connectivity when you have to jump through all these configuration hoops each time it's powered-down. Oh, and the HP Smart printing app has been uninstalled & reinstalled several times too, just for good measure. Given that everything else works just fine (and the fact that it re-connects instantly after using the slider to turn it (the Wi-Fi) off and then back on again), it almost seems like this might be some kind of intentional behavior, for some odd reason. Please advise...

Hi @RGRAM

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're facing a frustrating issue with your HP Smart Tank 7602 not reconnecting to Wi-Fi. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem:

1. Check Power Saving Settings:

  • Sometimes printers have power-saving features that can affect Wi-Fi connectivity. Check the printer’s settings for any options related to sleep mode or power saving and adjust them.

2. Adjust Wi-Fi Settings on the Router:

  • Ensure your router’s firmware is up to date.
  • Try changing the Wi-Fi channel on your router (common channels are 1, 6, and 11). This can help reduce interference.

3. Use a Static IP Address:

  • Assign a static IP address to the printer through your router's DHCP settings. This can help maintain a consistent connection.
  • Access your router’s settings (usually via a web browser) and find the DHCP settings to reserve an IP for your printer.

4. Reconnect to Wi-Fi:

  • Go to the printer’s control panel and forget the Wi-Fi network, then reconnect it by entering the password again.

5. Disable Wireless Power Saving:

  • Some routers have power-saving features that can affect connectivity. Check your router settings and disable any options related to wireless power saving.

6. Reset Network Settings:

  • On the printer, perform a network reset. This will erase all network settings, allowing you to set it up fresh:
    • Access Settings > Network > Restore Network Settings.

7. Firmware Update:

  • Although you've mentioned that the printer is updated, it’s good to double-check if there are any new updates available on the HP support site.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
