As the original poster mentioned, when the Smart Tank 7302 "wakes up", WIFI is broken and flashes an alert. In th OP post, he mentioned he had a simple connection to his ATT gateway. In my case I have a simple link to a Tmobile gateway.

Here is where out situation differs. OP had this problem with the printer going to sleep & power cycling, but this issue only happens to me when the power gets cycled (or randomly). Turning off the machine and turning it back on definitely breaks the WIFI, waking from sleep does not. I have since updated power settings in the web server to never power off, and this has decreased the problem, but it still happens randomly every day / every other day.

I noticed that the web server will *not* save the network settings no matter how many times I tried. Perhaps the network settings reside only in RAM, and so when power gets cycled, since nothing is saved in secondary memory, the WIFI does not know how to reconnect? I should add that connecting via ethernet cable produces a similar result - after power cycling the unit does not know how to reconnect, and the HP Smart App shows the unit as unavailable.

I have tried everything the HP rep suggested to OP, and nothing works except to reinitialize the WIFI settings each time this happens. I can see why this unit was discounted by Costco, as a way to move units, as a percent of users will meet this ridiculous networking issue that in no way compensates for the discount.

As a last resort, I have created a separate 2.4gh WIFI network specifically for this printer. If that does not work, and HP here does not have a solution, the unit will need to be returned. Sadly, the printing / scanning parts seem to be fine, it is just this maddening network disconnect issue.

Hi @Dariq,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with wireless connectivity on your Printer.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.

Please follow the steps below to connect your printer to the network again.

1) Uninstall the HP smart app by click on this link, Restart the computer or mobile device to clear possible error conditions.

2) Enable Wi-Fi setup mode: When you turn on your printer for the first time, it is temporarily placed in Wi-Fi setup mode so that it can be discovered during setup. Use the printer control panel to restore Wi-Fi setup mode, and then set up the printer again. Go to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer for more information.

3) Refer to this link to use the HP smart app on your phone/tablet/PC to add a printer.

Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Hi, Irvwin6.

Thank you for the feedback.  Unfortunately, I have tried the normal problem solving routines you mentioned many, many times, all to no avail.  Every morning, I come back to a printer with a blinking WIFI icon, the connection severed and corrupted so that I will need to manually clear that out and reinitialize WIFI.  Sometimes this happens several times a day.  And using an Ethernet cable (which defeats the purpose of a WIFI enabled printer) produces a similar result (no blinking WIFI icon since WIFI is disabled, but the printer is offline and will not connect to the gateway until the connection to the network is reinitialized).  I wanted to like this AIO printer unit, but I am afraid unless you have a hack which has not been mentioned, it will need to be returned to Costco with a caveat for other potential buyers.

Cheers,

Dariq

Hi @Dariq,

I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much but i do appreciate your efforts in performing the troubleshooting steps.

Please follow the below steps to further troubleshoot to fix the issue.

A) Perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, please follow the steps below to connect your printer to the network again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Good afternoon.

This unit is a "tank" model, meaning that it does *not* have cartridges, so that portion of your instructions cannot be followed.  The other steps have been followed, again to no avail, unfortunately.  But if the instructions had worked, is this truly what customers would have to go through to use this HP model?  I cannot imagine any purchaser finding that acceptable.

As far as I can tell, what seems to be happening is that (1) the unit is *not* storing WIFI configuration to secondary storage (2) the unit is power cycling at random times, sometimes once a day, sometimes several times per day, and setting the web server to never power down does not alter this behavior  (3) after a power cycling, the WIFI configuration is wiped and the unit blinks an alert, which can only be ameliorated by re-doing the WIFI configuration  (4) using an Ethernet cable also does not help, so it may actually be a general networking problem upon powering up rather than specifically a WIFI problem.

I am honestly exhausted with the time and effort spend on trying to debug this.  Costco had this model on sale, and perhaps there was a reason for that?  I thought to save a bit of money from purchasing an Epson (my original choice), and here I am 😕  Not sure what else I can do except to return it.

Hello all.  I spent most of my day troubleshooting this and trying everything suggested by the support center and nothing worked.  Internet research did not help.  But then I remembered I also run a second wireless network using an older Netgear router for a lot of my smart devices so as not to interfere with working on my computer.  I shifted to using that network and everything connected fine.  The printer installed perfectly.  So then I deleted the app, reset the printer factory settings and tried it again on my main network, the Netgear MR60 mesh.  The HP Smart App for desktop (Mac OS13) would set up the printer and get it connected to the network, but again, it would not finish the final setup.  So now having it worked on my older network and not the newer one, that told me there is a problem between the printer and the MR60 network.  Using routerlogin.net, I went into the router settings and found 3 switches turned off under advanced settings that had me wonder if they could be the culprit.  These were MU-MIMO, Wireless AP and IPv6 settings.  After doing some internet research, I found these are important settings that could impact device connectivity and the research recommended they all be turned on.  I turned the MU-MIMO toggle on, saved it and reset the router, the printer factory settings, deleted the HP Smart App, then turned everything off and on again to make sure everything reset properly.  (I could have turned all the toggles on but I wanted to try these one at a time.)  I downloaded the Smart App and went through the add new printer function.  This time the printer was connected to my MR60 mesh network and the install completed as it should have.  The printer is now recognized on the MR60 network and I tried both scan and print functions.  All is good.  I did go back and turn on the IPv6 toggle in the router settings and that had no impact on printer operations.  I did not turn on the Wireless Access Point as I don't think I need it for my setup.  I'm not ready to declare victory yet as I want to see how this continues to work, but I will take today's battle as a win.  If you don’t hear from me again, then this is working well.  Bottom line:  Make sure your router MU-MIMO is turned ON.  I hope this works for most of you.
