HP DeskJet 4130e All-in-One Printer

Almost 11 months to the day I first came on here looking for help, I appear to have found a fix albeit by accident. I did find a fix almost a month after I first got the printer but forgot to write it down to help others. It's nearly 2AM and I've spent the last couple of days going through the same stressful trials and errors after an unexpected reinstall. But this time, whilst it's still fresh in my mind I've decided to create a new thread to help anyone still having this annoying as hell issue as I wouldn't wish this level of stress on anybody. There's a good chance this won't work for everybody but it's at least worth a try.

I went into Settings/Apps/Installed Apps/HP Smart/Advanced Settings

I then hit Reset, Repair and then Uninstall. (Try switching the order of Reset and Repair if you have no luck)

I then went back to Microsoft Store to reinstall but it wouldn't. It just showed "Open." When I clicked it, nothing happened which led me to believe the app hadn't been uninstalled properly or fully.

So went back into Settings/Apps/Installed Apps/HP Smart/Uninstall

Now that HP Smart had been properly uninstalled I went back to Microsoft Store yet again and this time it showed the "Install" button. After installing, I opened up the app for the first time and was presented with "Add a new printer" or "Sign in." I chose "sign in" as I knew my printer and HP+ was already registered on the Android version of the app I have. Then something I wasn't expecting happened. The app opened up a separate Google Chrome window and asked me to enter my HPID details. I did and then the window redirected me back to the app and voila! After a day and a half of trying everything, it finally logged me in with no error message! It automatically added my printer so there was no need to go through the "restore factory defaults" and begin the whole installation process again for the 5000th time. I then clicked on the grey "Get Supplies" button in the app and it changed the top banner of the app to orange to indicate HP+ was indeed activated.

I could have sworn over the last 2 days of trying to get this to work again, I'd done this method more than once but maybe, it was the order in which I did everything? Specifically the Reset, Repair and Uninstall step.

Anyway, I hope this helps a few of you out oh and HP, you really need to fix this app seen as so many are having this problem over so many years.

Good luck!
