Hi @Henry100,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "No session" error in HP Smart while trying to scan on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M428fdw can be due to various issues, from software glitches to network or account-related problems. Here are some steps to help resolve this issue.
Update HP Smart and Printer Firmware: Ensure HP Smart and the printer firmware are up to date. Outdated software can sometimes cause compatibility issues.
Reset HP Smart Login:
- Open the HP Smart app.
- Log out of your account, then log back in.
- Check if the error persists after logging back in.
Disable VPN or Firewall Temporarily: If you’re using a VPN or firewall, temporarily disable it to see if it’s blocking the connection between HP Smart and the printer.
Clear HP Smart Cache (Windows):
- In the HP Smart app, sign out and close the app.
- Clear the HP Smart app data by going to C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\Packages\HewlettPackard... and delete the HP Smart folder.
- Reopen the app, sign in, and try scanning again.
Check HP Smart Account Permissions: Sometimes, account permissions can prevent the app from fully connecting to HP’s cloud services. Go to your HP account settings, sign in, and verify your account information.
Reconfigure Network Settings:
- Restart your router and printer.
- Connect the printer via Ethernet if possible, as it can provide a more stable connection than Wi-Fi for troubleshooting.
Try Using Windows Fax and Scan (Windows):
- Go to Windows Fax and Scan and try scanning to see if the issue is specific to HP Smart.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden,
Would you please send me the same info you sent to Henry via a private message? I've tried everything here and more but still cannot scan documents to my computer due to the "An error has occurred noSession" error. Everything was working fine with my old Windows 10 laptop, but not with my new Windows 11 laptop.
Any insight you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave
