Alright, this is driving me up a wall.

The printer is configured with a static IP address. I can ping it from the PC. I can print to it from two different iPads.

When I try to use the HP Smart app from the Windows 10 Store, I click "add printer" - it scans for a few seconds and sees the printer, but AS SOON as I click on it, the icon changes from a green dot / ONLINE to a red dot / OFFLINE and I get a message saying that the printer must be turned on in order to add it. (again, I can constantly run a ping to this printer the entire time).

  • When I try to install the printer automatically via Windows 10 devices and printers, it says something about Driver not available.
  • When I install the printer manually through "old school" Windows control panel and I can specify the TCP/IP address and the driver, the printer works, but I can't install the scanner.
  • When I use the set up wizard for the HP IT Pro Installer, everything seems to install, but when I try to print, nothing happens.

In every one of those situations, even when the printer OR scanner is working, the HP Smart app sees it when it scans to add a new printer, but refuses to connect to it. I feel like this is the key to my problems, but I cannot get it to work! PLEASE HELP!

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Are you able to print and scan through the normal drivers?

Try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Also, try uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart App.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks!

Have a great day!
