Having trouble logging in to your HP account when prompted by the HP Smart app? Does it open an unhelpful browser window while the app remains in perpetual waiting mode? Here is the solution that worked for me, and it may give you an idea no matter what device or operating system you have HP Smart installed. I simply changed my default browser to the one that came with my computer. In my case, it's Safari on my Mac. The backstory: I had no problem doing the wireless printing with my Mac connected, as it usually is, only to my home wifi. The problem occurred when I tried the "Scan" option on the HP Smart app. It would ask me to login to my HP account, launch a browser window to do so, and just wait. The problem was that the window was just the start page of Google Chrome and nothing else. When I navigated to the HP website, I noticed that I was already logged in from a previous session, and it stays that way until I actively log out. After changing my default browser, quit and re-started the HP Smart app, and selected "Scan", this time it opened Safari to an HP login page, which finally transferred the login to the HP Smart app so I could scan. It seems unreasonable that you have to make an account and login to a manufacturer in order to use a function of their product. It also is a clunky deal that the app doesn't have the proper connectivity to do the login function without the help of a web browser. I was hoping that my all-in-one machine would just connect to my computer by bluetooth, like other peripherals, say, a keyboard, mouse, or speaker. I really hope this helps save time and aggravation for someone out there.
