I have a laptop and a desktop computer that both are windows 11. Suddenly, the HP Smart app will not load on either of them.
The app on my phone won’t load anymore either and when I tried to uninstall and reinstall it, I was directed to an app that is simply called HP but, apparently, it’s functionality to replace the HP smart app is not rolled out completely yet and it doesn’t do anything.
I have done all of the troubleshooting. I have uninstalled the app on my laptop and my desktop computer. I’ve tried to find and reinstall it, but it doesn’t work from the windows App Store. I tried the HP website and can’t find a way to download the HP smart app.
my printer still works, however, I can’t scan on it anymore and that is one of the main reasons I got the HP all in one.
this just started about two weeks ago, September 2025.

You are welcome.
True -- if you cannot see the screen without the help of the Dark Mode setting, then changing it -- even to test whether setting the Mode to Light cannot help. 🐀
If Dark Mode is actually the source of the problem --
and
If you have a friend or colleague that can so so --
Ask them >> Switch OFF the Dark Mode setting long enough to test whether HP Smart can open.
The comments I've seen about the results seem to indicate that once the HP Smart container can open (and the printer is set up / added / configured), the Dark Mode setting can be put back in place (Switch Dark Mode to ON).
I'm sorry it's a mess --

Welcome to the HP Community --
True - Android is now switched to the HP App.
True, too, iOS / iPadOS is in the process of switching from HP Smart to the HP App.
Finally, HP Smart in Windows has not switched but will do so when the Windows version of the HP App is ready.
I'm not sure I can help --
I do have a couple of suggestions you can try to perhaps sort the issued with HP Smart and Windows.
Android - Can't help -- I don't have an Android phone.
iOS / iPadOS -- HP Smart has not yet been replaced on my iOS devices.
Windows - HP Smart should be OK -- or could (might) be sorted so it will work.
----------------------------------------------------
If you have an Android phone and the HP App is installed - and it is not working -- consider uninstalling the app for the moment.
Same for iOS / iPadOS -- If your HP Smart has been replaced with the HP App and the app won't work, consider uninstalling the HP App for the moment.
Windows --
1) Restart your printer and your Windows 11 computers
2) Attempt to install the HP Smart application from
Microsoft Store or 123.hp.com - Printer setup from the HP® Official site
Before you open the HP Smart App...
- If you are running High Contrast or “Dark Mode” and the app will not open at all, try switching to None (for contrast) or “Light” for mode.
- After the application opens, set up the printer –
- Later, if you wish to do so, try setting the mode back to your preferred setting.
If the application at least opens, but does not work (cannot connect, lags, won't let you sign in, similar),
Close the HP Smart App -
Consider
Reset the HP Smart application
What to do - How much is needed?
The following are the "full set of notes" on the subject of resetting HP Smart.
Skip what you feel is unnecessary, redundant, or disliked.
For example, because (at this time) you will not have (re)installed the HP App on your mobile devices, the comments about the "latest version of the app on every platform" are not relevant.
Impact --
Uninstalling / Reinstalling the HP Smart application, does not impact other parts of what the HP Smart application supports. Resetting the application means you have to "Add Printer" and possibly set up other parts of the application that you had previously modified.

NOTES
- If you skip one or more steps and nothing works, consider going back and adding any missed checkpoints.
- Ignore anything not relevant, unwanted, disliked.

Reminder
It is important that every device where HP Smart is installed is using the latest version of the HP Smart app for that device type.
Check / Update >> Every device (computer(s) and mobile) where HP Smart / HP App is installed should be running the latest version of the HP Smart / HP App application available for that device platform (Operating System / Version).
AND
The printer and device (computer, tablet, phone) where HP Smart / HP App is running should be on the same network.
That might be enough…
Stop if everything is now working.

Thank you SO much for your incredibly thorough and detailed reply! Unfortunately, I have tried ALL of the suggestions and they have not worked 😞
I am blind and must use the dark mode theme to see and so, changing it is not an option for me. I guess I have to find a 3rd part app to use to scan until the HP app is rolled out on my iPhone and available and useful in the Windows store.
I will read through your reply again to ensure I have not missed anything, but, again, thank you for the detailed reply. I guess my all-in-one is now just a printer. What a waste.
