HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an older printer, and got a new computer. The HP Smart app on the new computer cannot tell me the ink levels because it's says "printer status unknown", even after I followed AI suggestions (restart printer, hide then redetect printer).  I can use the app to print, etc, just not check status.  My old computer had no problem checking the printer and telling me ink levels, so I guess it was smarter than the new app.  Hope you can help - thanks!  P.S.  The printer's menu window went fuzzy a couple of years ago, so I can't read messages on it (found a solution online but it was complicated to put a new part on).

Thank you so much for your quick reply!!  I did try reinstalling HP Smart, which didn't help.  Then, reinstalled the printer, using your link, which also reinstalled the old HP Printer Assistant I used to have, which shows ink levels (yay!).  So I'm just going to forget about HP Smart.  I noticed along the way that some features, online related I think, are not available because I use a USB cable connection.  I tried to follow the instructions to set up a wireless connection, but had an immediate problem because it required me using the printer screen, which has that "fuzzy" problem I read about online, so I can't see most of the items.  Anyway, I'm good to go I think, in an old fashioned way, and I'm very grateful for your willingness to help.  AG
