HP Smart can't find my USB Printer

I got a new computer recently, and now HP Smart can't find my printer that's connected via USB (it never would connect via internet, so I've always just used USB).  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both HP Smart and my printer from my computer, but nothing has worked.  It does print, since my computer recognizes it, but since I installed a new ink cartridge, it's skipping, and needs the cartridges aligned or cleaned, but I can't do that without HP Smart.

It's worked fine on a couple other computers I was borrowing until I got my new one in, so I can't figure out what could be different on this one.  Really annoyed to discover that you can't get phone support on devices out of warranty.  Help?  I know I had to do something weird when I first installed it to be able to use USB instead of the internet, but I can't remember or find that info now.

(I made sure Windows was updated.  And I installed HP Scan, which had no problem finding it.)

1. For printer install with USB cable you can use HP Easy Start software:

2.  You may need to select second option for connection - USB cable
