I replaced the cartridges with non-original HP ink. They were rejected immediately. Overwriting did not work. The display on the printer said that it is not connected to my HP account. It always has been. The HP Smart app in the Start menu was unresponsive, with no data or KB, and it was impossible to delete or remove it. The HP Smart app blocked printing. The printer did not even print test pages directly from the printer itself. I put the original HP cartridges back, but nothing worked. The printer received the printing command from the desktop, but it did not print. I tried downloading a new HP Smart app from the store, but I received error messages (0x80073d23) the entire time. I think the main problem is that the connection between the printer and my HP account via the Smart App (Start menu) is interrupted and cannot be restored. HP agents are not available. What can I do?

Hi @Sunlight3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer stopped working after installing non-original cartridges, and the HP Smart app has become unresponsive — showing no data, can’t be removed, and keeps blocking all printing functions even after reinstalling original cartridges. Let’s go through a few steps to fix both the app and the printer connection.

a. Reset the HP Smart App Installation
 1. Press Windows + R, type:
    powershell
 2. Right-click Windows PowerShellRun as Administrator.
 3. In the PowerShell window, copy and paste the following command:
    Get-AppxPackage *HP* | Remove-AppxPackage
This command will completely remove any broken or corrupted HP Smart app files.
 4. Once complete, restart your PC.

b. Reinstall HP Smart from Microsoft Store
 1. After restarting, open Microsoft Store.
 2. Search for HP Smart and click Install.
  > If you get error 0x80073d23, run the following command in PowerShell (Admin) before retrying:
    wsreset.exe
Wait until the Microsoft Store resets, then try reinstalling HP Smart again.

c. Remove Old Printer Drivers and Queues
 1. Press Windows + R, type control printers, and press Enter.
 2. Right-click your HP printer → Remove device.
 3. In the same window, click Print server properties (top menu).
 4. Go to the Drivers tab → select your HP printer → Remove.
 5. Restart your computer once again.

d. Perform a Printer Reset
 1. With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer and the wall outlet.
 2. Wait 60 seconds.
 3. Plug it back in directly to the wall outlet (not through an extension).
 4. Power it on and wait for the printer to fully initialize.

e. Restore Network and HP Account Connection
 1. On the printer control panel, go to Network Settings → Restore Network Defaults.
 2. Reconnect it to your Wi-Fi using the Wireless Setup Wizard.
 3. Open the newly installed HP Smart app on your PC.
 4. Sign in with your HP account and click Add Printer → follow on-screen steps to reconnect your printer.

I hope this helps.
