WIFI network stable and works all over house with MANY devices. HP Smart FAILS to detect MF M234sdw through wifi or USB. Even tried network address with no luck. Uninstalled and re-installed HP Smart several times. Document print (word, pdf) and scan (adobe) all work fine through USB. Setup mode for this printer appears to function (WIFI light) but never handshakes with HP Smart. HP needs to produce a much better install program and user interface to address these issues. HP Smart cannot find another large HP Color Laser over the network in another room. Network has no issues. Router is VERY fast and has excellent coverage. Same problems with ethernet.

If you're experiencing difficulties with HP Smart detecting your HP LaserJet MFP M234sdw, despite having a stable Wi-Fi network and functional USB connections, there are several potential solutions and troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Verify Printer Network Connection

Ensure the Printer is On: Make sure your printer is powered on and ready.

Check Wi-Fi Status: Confirm that the printer's Wi-Fi signal is active. If the printer has a light next to a Wireless icon or button, ensure the light is on steady and not blinking, which indicates it is disconnected from the network.

Reconnect Wi-Fi:

  • For printers with a touchscreen control panel, use the Setup, Network, or Wireless settings menu to select the Wireless Setup Wizard, enter your network name and password, and complete the connection.
  • For printers without a touchscreen, press and hold the Wireless button for five seconds or until the wireless light starts flashing. Then, press the WPS button on the router until the connection completes.

Use Ethernet (If Possible): If Wi-Fi continues to fail, try connecting the printer directly to the network using an Ethernet cable to check for connectivity.

HP Smart Setup Mode

  1. Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode:
    • Use the printer control panel to restore the Wi-Fi setup mode and attempt setup again.
    • Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your computer or mobile device for HP Smart app setup, which can assist in detecting the printer.

Resolving Software Setup Issues

Uninstall and Reinstall: Make sure to fully uninstall HP Smart and any HP drivers before reinstalling them. Use HP Software and Driver Downloads to ensure you have the latest software compatible with your printer model.

Firewall and VPN: Temporarily disable any firewalls on your computer that may be blocking HP Smart from detecting the printer. Also, disconnect from any VPN connection during setup.

Device Restart: Restart the printer, computer, and router to clear possible error conditions that could affect setup.
