Have loaded the HP smart app, and located and activated the printer. However,  on launching tha app and selecting print document, the app does not find any files in my documents folder to print. If I select print photo, photos in the photos folder are available to print

This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are you are unable to print documents on HP Envy 5530 Printer using HP Smart App. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

  1. From the HP Smart app home screen, click the Print tile, and then click Print Document or Print Photo.

  2. Locate the document or photo in the Documents folder or Pictures library, or browse to another folder where the file might be saved.

  3. Select the document or photo you want to print.

A preview of the print job displays in the Microsoft Print Preview window.

  4. From the preview window, you can select a different printer or make any changes to the print settings, such as paper size or output quality, if necessary.

  5. Example of a PDF document in the print preview window

  6. From the preview window, click Print.

The print preview window closes and the printer prints your document or photo.

  7. From the HP Smart app Print window, click Done.

The app returns to the home screen.

Click here and refer the document for more steps.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.
