A few weeks ago, on an older version of the HP Smart application, the sign-in would not "stick" and it was necessary to keep signing in every little while.

The "can't stay signed in" problem was fixed in one of the updated versions.

Normally, your HP Smart would be kept Updated by the Microsoft Store

You can choose to uninstall the app > Restart the computer > "Get" and install a new copy of the application.

Try reloading the HP Smart Application

Uninstall HP Smart > Restart the computer and log in > Install the application from the Microsoft Store

Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Search or scroll down and find HP Smart

Left-Click on the item > Uninstall

Restart the computer and log in

"Get" a new copy of the Application from the Microsoft Store

Reminder:  You’ll need to sign in to the application with your HP Account credentials.

What else?

  • Check for Windows Updates - complete any updates found

If any updates are installed > Restart the computer and log in

Repeat until "No updates are found"

  •

Recheck that every device is using the most recent version of the HP Smart application for that device.  What?  Sign into each device / computer > open its app store > check for updates

Thanks for your answer.

Unfortunately seems as my installation of HP Smart (133.1.340.0) is not older than the one found in the Microsoft Store (dated 9/27/2012).

I could uninstall and reinstall, but I wouldn't risk to loose the configuration reached on july 2021after a chat session with a kind HP technician. During that session HP Smart was uninstalled and reinstalled.

I can confirm my copy of Windows 10 pro is regularly updated .

You are welcome.

You should, of course, do what you think is best for your situation.

What else?

The following does not require that you uninstall any application or software.

Will it make a difference?  Perhaps - it depends on the root cause of the error.

Assuming you have already tried Restarting Everything, including your router,

This is a reasonable "next try" that does not require that you update or reinstall any software or applications.

Disabling Fast Start is perfectly safe for a healthy system.

Many people switch OFF the Fast Start setting and leave it OFF.  (I am one of these.)

Your choice.

Fast Start uses a "saved configuration" to more quickly start your computer.

This is great until / if "something" is saved that should have been discarded during the boot sequence.

The "seconds" saved by having Fast Start enabled might suddenly become a hinderance.

Switching off the Fast Start option lets the computer start (boot up) using the Windows Operating System and File System on the disk.

Reference / How-to Article (there are MANY such available on the 'net):

The Pros and Cons of Windows 10’s “Fast Startup” Mode

If you are willing to do so,

If you have Fast Start enabled,

Switch OFF Fast Start > Execute a complete shutdown > Wait a few seconds > Boot the computer

Check for any difference

Regardless of the outcome (whether this fixes whatever is "wrong"),

If you wish to do so, Fast Start can be re- enabled.

Leaving the option OFF is a perfectly acceptable choice.

Windows 10

Switch off / on Fast Start

Settings   > System > Power and Sleep > Additional Power Settings

Choose what the power buttons do

Click Change settings that are currently unavailable

Remove Check (clear box) Turn on fast startup (recommended)

Save

Next,

Close programs (browsers, games, email, etc) and close any open windows

Next,

Windows key + X + A (opens Cmd prompt as Admin)

When the command window opens, type / paste the following command and hit Enter:

shutdown /s /t 0

  • Wait for the computer to shut down completely (a few seconds)
  • Boot the computer > Log in > Wait around for a couple of minutes (yes, wait, do not rush) >
  • Try shutting down the notebook from Windows key > Power

Optional

Switch ON the fast startup setting

Dragon-Fur NOTE:

Business Notebooks > Fast Boot setup may be enabled / disabled in the BIOS

Shut down the workstation > Power on, immediately tap-tap-tap F10 to enter the BIOS >

Advanced > Boot Options >

Check / Uncheck Fast boot > Save and exit

OR

Elevated command prompt - run the following command:

REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Power" /V HiberbootEnabled /T REG_dWORD /D 0 /F
