HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-in-One Printer

HP Printer drivers became unstable since moving to MacOS Ventura.

Attempted to install new drivers.  Downloaded the HP Smart for Desktop.

The software does not see it on the network. Attempted to install using USB and it fails as well.

LSUSB reports:  +-o HP OfficeJet Pro 8710@14133000 <class AppleUSBDevice, id 0x100120467, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (47 ms), retain 37>

All other computers can print to the printer just fine including iPhones and iPads.  Only the MacOS Ventura device.

Hi @SunSDSE,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-In-One Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Good Day,

Thank you for your response, but it's a bigger issue than just a power drain.

The printer was working before the last Firmware push to the printer, now it doesn't. I suspect that MacOS Ventura 13.3 is not working with the HP Software.  I have remove all the drivers from the Mac and used the HP Smart program to install the printer driver which fails.  The HP Smart then asks you to use Apple's System Settings to add the printer.  This also fails when installing when connected to USB with "Unable to communicate with the printer at this time."   If I try and install using the Ethernet Bonjour Multifunction connection, I get: "Unable to connect to ‘printer.lese-fowler.us._ipps._tcp.local.’ due to an error. Would you still like to create the printer?  when asked to continue it reports "Unable to communicate with the printer at this time."

Th HP Smart App is talking to the printer as it is reporting the correct levels on the ink tanks.

In looking at the network traffic there seems to be some broken connections in the communication.  I suspect there is some SSL/TLS code that is broken with the latest firmware as it the firmware update has also broken my Scan to eMail features.

My printer has been a great product with over 15k sheets printed since I purchased the device.  I can still print from my iPhone and iPad, so I can still print, but it a hassle.

More information...

I installed the HP Easy Scan and it operates correctly with the HP8715.

The printer works with my Daughters MacOS which is running 12.

It still seems to be something with MacOS Ventura 13.3
