I have the same issue , After an initial start up it occasionally works then on a second try it won't scan , it still works on my old MacBook and on the ho app on my iPhone its just Sequia, Its an old HP envy 110 which I don't want to change and its clearly a software issue , Aly help would be appreciated

Turns out my problem was not Sequoia as I thought. We recently updated our router from WPA2 to WPA3. THAT was the problem, believe it or not. The older printers DO NOT WORK on WPA3. Once we changed the setting back to WPA2, it worked again.

I had the same problem with my Deskjet 2600 series all-in-one after updating to OS Sequoia and iPadOS 18. What finally worked for me was deleting the printer from my Mac and then running HP Smart on my Android phone to set up my printer as a new device. After set up I just clicked on the box to allow the device to connect to other devices on the network. Voila, my printer and scanner work perfectly once again on my Mac and my iPad Pro. In fact I can finally print in colour from my iPad for the first time since iPad15!

Until such time as a software fix is released this worked for me ....
HP Smart v17.25.1 not communicating with HP Envy 6032 printer (f/w 2418A.00) properly after MacOS Sequoia upgrade (15.0.1). HP Smart Home page gives printer name, but does not display ink levels or printer status. Printer Info page shows printer 'Ready", but some fields empty because HP Smart cannot access the required data from the printer. None of the Home page functions work, but printing is fine from MacOS, and HP Easy Scan app also works fine.
Temp Fix ...
- Leave faulty HP Smart Home window open.
- Open MacOS System Settings/Wi-Fi. 'Known Networks' should immediately display your home router network. A minute later 'DIRECT-2D-HP ENVY 6000 series' appears for me.
- If I hover over 'DIRECT-2D-HP ENVY 6000 series' until a 'Connect' button appears, then click on it, my Wi-Fi switches and after a short pause a proper direct connection between HP Smart and the printer is established and the ink levels and printer status appear on the HP Smart Home page as normal, but the internet is not accessible.
• 4. If I hover over my Home router network and click the 'Connect' button when it appears my connection switches back to give me internet connectivity and initially the ink levels and printer status disappear, but reappear once the connection has established itself. HP Smart then works fine.

Hi Pete ,
Thanks for your reply you are right that I loose the ink level indicator when its not going to work , its random but frequent , what annoys me is it works through my old 2013 Mac Book Pro and via my iPhone 13 and with the HP app on the iPhone it scans perfectly with all the edits available, I tried your method but in the home network section it only gives the router name which I assume is the home network I don't have anything specific it initially worked by keeping the HP smart app open but like all attempts it then failed , I had already reinstalled the Sequia 15 .01 and it made no difference , for the record I am using an iMac 27" 2020 and after installing Sequia I lost my HIK Vision security cameras and the menu bar at the top left of the screen ie where you turn off and sleep the drop downs are there but no titles and that's the same after reinstalling the operating system, Having researched the print issue I haven't seen many reports like we have and was hoping HP would have addressed it or is there a limited number of people affected ? , I am now desperate enough to do a manual reformat taking into account the menus that are missing but that's 6 hrs worth of work as I don't want to use Time Machine to bring the issue back, Im really at a loss and am now thinking that have I got a conflict on the iMac since installing sequoia , My printer is an Envy 110 so its quite old and yet the HP smart app looks like one size fits all so to speak (not specific to the printer),

Hi Alan, I suspect the 'DIRECT' printer network only appears in MacOS Wi-fi for printers that are eligible for Instant Ink and have the appropriate comms setup embedded in the firmware. The Envy 110 isn't in the eligible printer list (presumably it's too old). Looks like it's different temporary fixes for different printers. Have you tried the HP Easy Scan App from App Store? It's not as good as HP Smart Scan, but it continued to work for me when HP Smart didn't. Might tide you over until a new version of HP Smart appears that has a fix in it. ... Pete.

Good afternoon Pete
I apologise for being so late responding to your last reply, In desperation I did a manual reformat of my iMac so I would have no conflicts and like all the other times it intermittently works perfectly but most of the time its a no go like you said the indicator is if it shows ink levels it will work , at this point I have to thank you for all your help and advice. what annoys me is the issues are down to hp, a couple of years ago I had to stop using non genuine in as I was told an hp update included a block which in my mind is a competitions infringement so I now pay around £100 for XL cartridges , Now they have decided to no longer supply software patches for my printer so my choices are: Buy a new printer which looks like the tank versions are the only way to go due to the extortionate price of the genuine cartridges so that's £200 upwards, then guess what it may not be compatible with my 10 year old Mac book pro so should I then spend £3000 on an upgrade , yet my phone and may book work perfectly now with the printer , I have always bought HP printers but while my head would say do it again my heart is saying how can you, I will persevere scanning with my old Mac book and phone and move to scans via dropbox , but when I run out of ink how can I spend £100 on cartridges knowing they have killed my printer, and its on limited life and may stop on there next update, I realise things progess but technology is putting us over a barrel, ps I did try HP smart scan and it docent see the scanner
thanks again Pete it was very helpful that you had good knowledge on this , how does the average Joe even get started sorting these things
regards Alan
