HP Smart Tank 529 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I am trying to add my HP Smart Tank 529 printer to my HP Smart app, but the app is not detecting the printer.

I have tried several ways, cleared HP Smart app's cache, uninstalled it and reinstalled it, signed out - signed in, but nothing works.

On the other hand, when I tried the HP Easy Start application and downloaded the FULL PACK instead of the HP Smart App, it detected my printer and installed all the drivers and software related to my printer.

But even after that, I tried removing HP Smart App and re-installing and then re-adding my printer, but still, the issue is the same.

I really want to use the HP Smart app as it is convenient and has a clean UI.

If someone knows how to resolve this issue, it would be a great help.

Thanks

PS: My printer is getting detected and working completely fine in all other HP Softwares, be it HP Support Assistant, Firmware upgrade one, etc.

Hi @amanmathur,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

You're right to expect the HP Smart app to detect your HP Smart Tank 529 All-in-One Printer, especially since it works fine with HP Easy Start, HP Support Assistant, and other HP tools. Let’s walk through the steps to resolve this issue and get the Smart app working as expected.

Fix: HP Smart App Not Detecting HP Smart Tank 529 Printer

1. Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode on the Printer

Since the Smart Tank 529 has a minimal display, you’ll need to manually reset Wi-Fi setup mode:

  • Press and hold the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 5 seconds.
  • The Wi-Fi light should start blinking, indicating the printer is in setup mode.
  • Now retry detection in the HP Smart app.

2. Ensure You’re on the Same Network

  • Your PC must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to join.
  • Avoid using guest networks or VPNs during setup.

3. Add Printer by IP Address (Advanced Method)

If the printer is already connected to Wi-Fi but not detected:

  1. Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer (usually by pressing the Information button).
  2. Note the IP address.
  3. In HP Smart app → Tap Add Printer → Choose “Add by IP address”.
  4. Enter the IP manually.

4. Update HP Smart App and Windows

  • Make sure the HP Smart app is the latest version from the Microsoft Store.
  • Check for Windows updates that may affect device discovery.

5. Check Windows Firewall and Network Discovery

  • Go to Control Panel → Network and Sharing Center → Advanced Sharing Settings.
  • Ensure Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing are turned ON.
  • Temporarily disable Windows Firewall to test detection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi,

Thank you for your response, but my printer is a non-wifi, usb only printer, so out of all these steps, I have tried updating hp smart app, firewall (as you suggested and some more options), and some more things as well, but nothing worked

PS: The printing and scanning functionality is working completely fine, I thinks its the issue with HP Smart App
