I'm trying to install the printer using the HP Easy Start software. It finds the printer via the IP address, but when it reaches the step where the program is supposed to scan for available software, it just keeps loading. Is there a driver that can be installed manually like a traditional printer in Windows?

Hi @cykel,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are experiencing issues installing the HP Smart Tank 5100 printer using the HP Easy Start software. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Ensure Compatibility: Verify that your operating system is compatible with the printer driver. The HP Easy Start software should support your version of Windows, macOS, or other OS you are using.

Check Internet Connection: Ensure that you have a stable internet connection, as the HP Easy Start requires internet access to download drivers and software.

Restart Devices: Restart both your printer and your computer to clear any temporary issues that might be causing the installation process to fail.

Download Latest Software: Visit 123.hp.com to download the latest version of the HP Easy Start software. Sometimes, a fresh download can resolve issues related to corrupted files.

Disable Firewall/Antivirus Temporarily: Occasionally, firewall or antivirus software can interfere with the installation process. Temporarily disable these programs and try installing the software again. Be sure to re-enable them afterwards.

USB Connection: If connecting via USB, ensure the cable is securely connected to both your computer and the printer. Also, try different USB ports.

Try a Manual Installation: You may attempt a manual installation by downloading the driver directly from HP Support based on your printer model and operating system.

Clear Print Queue: Ensure that there are no pending jobs in the print queue that could be causing conflicts.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
