Hi @volksdoc,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the print head of your HP Smart Tank 7000 series printer isn’t moving to the center and you can’t see where to install it, follow these steps.
Check the Printer's Manual: Refer to the printer's manual for specific instructions on print head installation. The manual usually includes diagrams showing where the print heads should be installed.
Power On and Open the Access Door: Ensure the printer is turned on. Open the printer’s access door or cartridge access door. The print carriage should move to the center of the printer for easy access. If it doesn’t move, make sure the printer is not in an error state.
Clear Obstructions: Ensure there are no obstructions or jammed paper preventing the print carriage from moving. Check for any foreign objects inside the printer.
Manually Move the Carriage: Gently try to move the print carriage manually if it’s stuck. Be careful not to use too much force.
Locate the Print Head Slots: The print head slots are typically located in the carriage area. They should be clearly visible when the carriage is in the correct position. Look for labeled slots or connectors where the print heads are installed.
Install the Print Heads:
- Remove the new print heads from their packaging.
- Align the print heads with the slots and insert them until they click into place.
- Ensure they are securely installed and properly aligned.
Close the Access Door: Close the access door carefully. The printer should recognize the new print heads and perform any necessary alignment automatically.
Run Printer Setup: Follow any prompts on the printer’s control panel or software to complete the print head setup and alignment process.
If these steps don’t resolve the issue or if the print head still doesn’t move, there might be a mechanical issue with the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
