HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had an update come up from HP to update my firmware, as I was preceding with the update of the firmware,  that HP suggested that I do, something happened and I wound up with a yellow flashing light, and code 8AF300001. The printer is out of warranty, so I paid the $21.44 for the help of technical support. After over 3 hours of troubleshooting, they come up with a conclusion that the printer is junk and I'd have to get a new one. I paid a lot of money for this printer to be considered junk after a firmware update that Hewlett-Packard suggested that I do. Anybody have any suggestions who I can contact to make this right with Hewlett-Packard?

@Jim-Dandy, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Smart tank 7602 printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Error code 8AF30001 on an HP printer typically indicates a firmware update failure or a problem with the firmware update process. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue.

  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on. Sometimes a simple restart can resolve firmware update issues.
  • Check Internet Connection: Ensure that your printer is connected to the internet properly. If the connection is weak or unstable, it could interrupt the firmware update process. Try connecting the printer to a different network if possible.
  • Retry Firmware Update: Attempt to update the firmware again. Make sure you're using the correct firmware version for your printer model, and follow the instructions provided by HP carefully.
  • Use USB Connection (if available): If your printer supports firmware updates via USB, try updating the firmware using a USB connection instead of over the network.
  • Reset the Printer: Perform a reset on the printer to clear any temporary issues. The method to reset the printer may vary depending on the model, so refer to the printer's manual for instructions.

Keep in mind that firmware updates are important for the performance and functionality of your printer, so it's essential to address this issue promptly.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I was told that the firmware HP suggested I update to and that caused my Smart Tank 7602 to become useless. Now I am stuck with a $350,00 printer that doesn't work because of a firmware update that HP said I needed tp install!!  Why is this my fault I an stuck with non working printer? I feel HP should make this mishap right.

Hi @Jim-Dandy

It’s frustrating to deal with a printer failure due to a firmware update, especially when it was recommended by HP. Let’s try a few additional steps that haven’t been mentioned yet.

Try a Partial Reset:

Press and hold the Power button and the Cancel button at the same time for about 10-15 seconds.

Release them and see if the printer restarts normally.

Firmware Recovery Mode:

Turn off the printer.

Hold down the Resume (or Cancel) button while turning it back on.

This may put the printer into firmware recovery mode, allowing you to reinstall the firmware.

Check if the Printer is in Recovery Mode (Windows Users):

Open Device Manager on your PC.

Look for a device labeled HP Printer - Bootloader Mode or something similar.

If found, you may be able to reinstall the firmware manually.

A Few Questions for You:

When you restarted the printer, did the flashing yellow light persist, or did anything change?

Have you tried checking if the printer is detected in Windows Device Manager after the update failure?

When attempting to reapply the firmware update, does the printer respond at all, or does it remain stuck?

Let me know how it goes, and we’ll take the next steps from there!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
