Good morning.
I bought an HP Smart Tank 583 printer and I'd like to use it mainly as a printer connected via a USB cable and leave the Wi-Fi connection as a second option.
Is it possible to do this, that is, have both alternatives configured at the same time (connection via USB cable and Wi-Fi) and choose, when printing the document, which of the two to use?
If it is possible, should I first configure the USB cable connection and leave it as the default printer and only then configure the Wi-Fi connection, or whatever?
Thank you in advance for your attention.

Hi @J_Mauritius,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
Yes, it's possible to configure your HP Smart Tank 583 printer to have both USB and Wi-Fi connections active simultaneously. However, you won't be able to switch between them on the fly when printing. Instead, you'll need to set one of them as the default connection and use the other as a backup.
Here's how you can set it up:
Connect via USB:
- Connect your printer to your computer using a USB cable.
- Install the printer drivers on your computer if you haven't already done so.
Connect via Wi-Fi:
- Follow the instructions in your printer's manual or on-screen prompts to connect it to your Wi-Fi network.
- Install the necessary drivers on your computer for the Wi-Fi connection.
Set Default Connection:
- On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP Smart Tank 583 printer and select "Set as default printer."
- Ensure that the USB-connected printer is set as the default.
Use Wi-Fi as a Backup:
- Whenever you want to use the Wi-Fi connection instead of USB, you'll need to manually change the default printer in your computer's settings to the Wi-Fi connected printer.
Printing:
- To print using the USB connection, simply select the printer in your print dialog and proceed with printing.
- To print using the Wi-Fi connection, change the default printer in your computer's settings to the Wi-Fi connected printer before printing.
Keep in mind that this setup requires manual switching between USB and Wi-Fi connections based on your preference at the time of printing.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
