Attempted to print documents, would not print.  Message read as Driver Error. Attempted to download current Drivers, removed printer as default, attempted to reinstall using HP Smart, indicates no printer found, installed new printer cable, reset printer several times, factory settings, still does not find the printer.

Hi @JMD1956

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I am sorry for the difficulty you are facing in getting your printer installed on your new PC. I understand how frustrating it must be to see driver errors and connection failures even after trying new cables, resets, and factory settings. I appreciate the effort you’ve already put into troubleshooting.

Here are some steps you can try to get the printer detected and working again:

Step 1: Verify Connection Type

  • If using USB, connect the printer directly to the PC without hubs or extension cables.
  • If using Wi‑Fi, ensure the printer and PC are on the same network and that the printer shows a solid connection on its control panel.

Step 2: Remove Old Drivers Completely

  • On your PC, press Windows + R, type control printers, and press Enter.
  • Right‑click the printer and select “Remove device.”
  • Go to “Print server properties” (top menu), select the “Drivers” tab, and remove any drivers related to your printer.
  • Restart the PC.

Step 3: Install Fresh Drivers and Software

  • Visit HP’s driver page for your printer model:
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
  • Enter your printer model and Windows version, then download and install the full software package.

Step 4: Add Printer via Windows Settings

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click “Add a printer or scanner.”
  • If your printer does not appear, select “The printer that I want isn’t listed” and add it manually using its IP address (for Wi‑Fi) or USB port.

Step 5: Test with HP App

  • Install the HP App from the Microsoft Store.
  • Open the app, sign in, and select “Add Printer.”
  • Follow the prompts to connect the printer.

Step 6: Run a Test Print

  • Once installed, print a test page from Windows or the HP App to confirm functionality.

These steps should help clear out old configurations and allow your new PC to recognize the printer properly.
