HP ENVY 5010 All-in-One Printer

My HP Envy 5010 printer was showing up as offline on my computer.  I tried uninstalling the printer and HP Smart.  After reinstalling HP Smart I go to add the printer and after searching it finds the HP Envy 5010 and it shows up online.  However, once I select the printer to set it up, I get a message saying "Select a Different Printer.  HP Envy 5000 series must be turned on to add it to HP Smart.  Once the printer is turned on tap OK to refresh, and then select the printer again" and the printer then appears offline. The printer is on and stays on throughout this process.

Please help in getting the printer to stay online and to get HP Smart to add it.

FYI the printer seems to have no issues with printing from my iPhone.  It would not print from my computer.   I did recently move into a new home when this became an issue.

Wanted to add that I recently moved into a new house, as I have seen that could cause an issue.

Hi @RyanBoone04,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering connectivity issues between your computer and the HP Envy 5010 printer when using HP Smart. Here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Check Physical Connections:

  • Ensure that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
  • Verify that the printer is properly connected to the power source and turned on.
  • Make sure there are no physical issues with the USB or network cables.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the HP support website and check for any firmware updates for your HP Envy 5010 printer. Updating the firmware may resolve compatibility issues.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your computer and the HP Envy 5010 printer. This can sometimes clear up communication issues.

Reinstall HP Smart:

  • Uninstall HP Smart from your computer, restart the computer and then reinstall the latest version of HP Smart.

Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings:

  • Ensure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking the communication between the computer and the printer. Temporarily disable these programs and check if the issue persists.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the HP website. This tool can automatically diagnose and resolve printing problems.

Manually Add the Printer:

  • Instead of using the automatic search in HP Smart, try manually adding the printer by entering its IP address or hostname.

Reset Network Settings on Printer:

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings and reset the network settings. Then, set up the wireless connection again.

Check Power Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer is not going into sleep mode or turning off automatically due to power-saving settings. Adjust the settings on the printer if necessary.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
