Just to be clear, I have the M283fdw and it's working for printing, but I need to be able to scan documents.  I appears that I must have HP Smart running to enable scanning to function correctly.  downloading and executing the HP Smart exe. install file pauses at a popup window where it's retrieving data from Microsoft Store, but never progresses. I need to either get HP Smart installed and running, or find a workaround to enable scanning.

I see that you are facing an issue adding your printer to your PC/Laptop.

To understand the issue and help you, please share the details listed below:

 

- Is this the first time you adding your printer to your devices?

- How are you planning to connect it USB or Wifi?

- When was the last time your printer was connected to the network or working fine?

- Were there any changes made to your printer or router recently?

- May I know which devices are you using to print eg: Windows PC, Mac, or Smartphone (Android or iPhone)?

 

Note: Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

The questions 

 

- How are you planning to connect it USB or Wifi?

- When was the last time your printer was connected to the network or working fine?

- Were there any changes made to your printer or router recently?

 

Are in no way related to the problem mentioned.

I have the same problem. On two different computers, both running Windows 10.

The HP Smart Installer.exe runs, and gets stuck forever on the window "Retrieving information from the Microsoft store..."

I am having the same problem.  New computer, the old HP Scan & Capture is not supported, I downloaded the fil, but it is not installing, as describbed above.

I ended up resetting the computer date to 2016, disabling automatic computer date sync, and installed the printer from the original CD. Then enabled date sync to set the date back to today.

It installed the original scanner program which is actually better than HP Scan & Capture anyway and it works perfectly.
