HP Smart is not providing the option duplex Scan

@FE-Berlin, Thanks for sharing the screenshots — they make the situation very clear 👍

Here’s what’s happening:

HP Scan (the older software) on Windows 10 gives you the option “Beidseitig” (Duplex Scan). It doesn’t mean the scanner is automatically duplex, but the software helps by letting you scan one side, flip the stack, and then automatically sorts the pages in the correct order.

HP Smart (the newer software) on Windows 11 doesn’t have this “manual duplex” feature built in. That’s why you only see single-sided scan options, and if you flip the stack manually, the software won’t reorder pages automatically.

So no, you didn’t install the wrong version — it’s just a limitation of HP Smart.

What you can do:

Continue using HP Scan (legacy app) on Windows 11:

You can still install and use the classic HP Scan and Capture or HP Full Feature Software package for your HP OfficeJet Pro 6830. This keeps the “Beidseitig” option.

Workaround inside HP Smart:

Scan all front sides first.

Then scan all back sides.

Use a PDF editor (like free Adobe Acrobat, PDFsam, or even Windows’ “Print to PDF” function) to reorder and interleave the pages correctly.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

@FE-Berlin, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Duplex Scanning with HP Smart Document Scan Software!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I can imagine how frustrating it must feel when you’re ready to scan and the duplex option just doesn’t show up. Not all HP printers support duplex scanning — some only support duplex printing, and for scanning you’d need either a model with an automatic document feeder (ADF) that supports two-sided scans, or you’d have to flip the pages manually.

Could you share your printer model? That’ll help confirm if duplex scanning is available for your device. In the meantime, if your printer doesn’t support it natively, HP Smart usually gives a “scan one side, then flip” option which stitches both sides together.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Dear ZOEY7886,

thanks for your answer.

my printer model is HP Officejet pro 6830.

With the software HP Scan on Windows 10 the duplex scan works fine. I have to flip the pages manually.

After the scan of the staple on both sides, the software is sorting the page numbers in the right order.

The option (german) "Beidseitig" realize the duplex print.

Because this software seems to be not perfect work on Windows 11, I tried to use HP Smart on my new Windows 11 laptop.

Here the option for duplex scan is missing. I scanned a staple on both sides, but the software did not sort the pages in the right order. Did I installed a wrong version of HP Smart?

Best regards FE-Berlin
