Hi @ATH2023

Thank you for your response,

The issue with having to reinstall your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw every time you want to scan in HP Smart could be caused by several factors. Here are some common reasons and solutions.

Connection Issues

  • Cause: The printer may lose connection to your computer or the network, making it appear offline to HP Smart.
  • Solution:
    • Ensure the printer and computer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
    • Restart your router and printer.
    • Check for network stability issues.

Driver or Software Problems

  • Cause: Corrupted or outdated drivers can cause HP Smart to lose communication with the scanner.
  • Solution:
    • Update the printer drivers from the HP support website.
    • Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor to detect and fix software issues.
    • Reinstall the HP Smart app with the latest version from the Microsoft Store or Mac App Store.

Firewall or Antivirus Blocking

  • Cause: Security software might block HP Smart from detecting the scanner.
  • Solution:
    • Temporarily disable your firewall/antivirus and try scanning.
    • Add HP Smart to the list of allowed applications in your firewall/antivirus settings.

IP Address Changes

  • Cause: If your printer is assigned a dynamic IP address, it may change, causing HP Smart to lose track of the printer.
  • Solution:
    • Assign a static IP address to the printer:
      • Access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) through its IP.
      • Set a static IP under the Network Settings.
    • Re-add the printer using the new static IP.

Incorrect Scanner Settings

  • Cause: Scanner settings or configurations might not persist correctly.
  • Solution:
    • In the HP Smart app, remove and re-add the printer, ensuring it is added as both a printer and scanner.
    • Test scanning using another app, such as Windows Fax and Scan or Preview (on macOS), to isolate the issue.
