Hi @EEMC1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If HP Smart isn't opening on your computer, try these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Restart Your Computer
- Sometimes, simply restarting your computer can resolve issues with apps not opening.
Update HP Smart
- Open the Microsoft Store (if you're on Windows) or the Mac App Store (for macOS).
- Check for updates to HP Smart. If there's an update available, install it.
Check for Windows or macOS Updates
- Ensure your operating system is up-to-date, as updates may include fixes for compatibility with applications like HP Smart.
- For Windows: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Check for Updates.
- For macOS: Go to System Preferences > Software Update.
Repair or Reinstall HP Smart
- On Windows:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Find HP Smart in the list and select it.
- Click Advanced options, then select Repair.
- If repairing doesn’t work, click Uninstall to remove it, then reinstall it from the Microsoft Store.
- On macOS:
- Open the Applications folder and find HP Smart.
- Drag it to the Trash to uninstall.
- Reinstall it from the Mac App Store.
Ensure Your Printer is Set Up Correctly
- Verify that your current HP printer is properly set up and connected (either through USB or Wi-Fi).
- Ensure your new printer is compatible with HP Smart and connected to the same network as your computer.
Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows Only)
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- This tool can detect and resolve issues related to printer setup and software.
Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings
- Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block HP Smart from opening. Temporarily disable these and see if it resolves the issue. If it does, re-enable them and add HP Smart as an exception.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
