Hi There,

HPSA has notified me of a new version of the firmware. It is MALBECPP1N004.2533D.00.

On initiation, the installer shows me my printer (greyed out) and if I select  the line it highlights it, but I am unable to check the tick box. The 'Update' button stays greyed out. The displayed version is 'MALBECPP1N004.2533D.00' and the status is showing 'Up-To-Date'.

The installer just looped, eventually failing with an error.

Do I need to install it- if so how? (I saw a firmware issue which talked about a similar situation possibly caused by micro updates but given the same version number- not very good version control if that is the case).

I need to be able to see when any new notification comes in. How do I remove the notification on HPSA? Delete it?

Any thoughts out there?

Hi @PK5601,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how confusing and frustrating it is when HP Support Assistant (HPSA) shows a firmware update for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8024e, but won’t let you install it and keeps notifying you about it. Let’s break this down and get you some clarity.

What’s Going On with Firmware Version MALBECPP1N004.2533D.00

  • The version displayed as “Up-To-Date” means your printer already has this firmware installed.
  • The checkbox being disabled and the Update button being greyed out confirms that no update is needed.
  • The looping and eventual failure are likely caused by HPSA trying to reapply the same firmware or misreading the update status due to a micro-update or version control issue, as you suspected.

Do You Need to Install It?

No, if the version is already installed and marked “Up-To-Date,” there’s no need to reinstall it. HP does occasionally push micro-updates under the same version number, but they are usually handled silently or via HP Smart.

How to Remove the Notification from HP Support Assistant

To clear or stop the firmware update notification:

  1. Open HP Support Assistant
  2. Click the Settings icon (gear icon in the left toolbar)
  3. Go to Notifications
  4. Uncheck or disable Firmware Update Notifications
  5. Alternatively, go to the Messages tab and delete the firmware update message manually

If the notification persists, you can also:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
