I have  a Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw printer, which is connected directly to my network router.   HP Support Assistant on my Windows 10 computer has a red warning dot on the icon (Important action needed).  Then ,it opens HP Print and Scan Doctor, which reports - Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177 PCLmS,  A later version of software is available for this product.  HP Print and Scan Doctor downloaded the latest version and uninstalled the previous version.  Following a reboot, it installed new software.  However, the program still shows the same error message.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Could you please share the picture of error message?
  • Have you tried updating the HP Support Assistant to the latest version?

There is no error message as such.  Both HP Support Assistant and HP Print and Scan Doctor report that a software update is needed.  I have downloaded the latest drivers from your website and have tried on several occasions to uninstall and reinstall the software for this printer.  The installer file details are "Color_LJPro_MFP_M177_full-solution_16260.exe", file version 19.0.0.0.  Although the printer works OK, HP Support Assistant and HP Print and Scan Doctor still say a software update is needed and I have a red warning icon on my computer taskbar.
I have prepared the following screenshots:
