The HP Support Assistant is nice when it works.

We can change the settings, add / remove devices, use or not use certain parts of the program.

What to do?

First, optionally, try updating your printer software manually - there are several reasons to do this, one of which is that manual uninstall / install gives you much more control over what / how / when the printer software is installed.

Manually installing drivers / software can work when HPSA is unable (for any reason) to install updates.

Options

Start at the back side:

Uninstall the HPSA > Restart the computer and log in > Install a fresh copy of the HPSA

Check whether the newly installed HPSA can handle the printer update.  Will that work?  Maybe.

OR

Start at the front side:

Manually uninstall / reinstall the printer software.  Scroll down to section Remove / Reload the Printer Software

After installing the printer software (and restarting the computer), check for any difference in HPSA

OR

Switch OFF the Automatic Update flag in HPSA so it won't bother you.

What?  If both computer and printer are older, HPSA is not needed for driver / software updates.

Instead, you can choose to check for updates manually - for example, once a month.

What about that printer update?

There is an updated driver for the printer.

The update in this case is limited to changes to the data collection statement.

The update won't change or improve the functionality of your printer software.

What?  The "new" software is functionally the old driver wearing a new shirt.

That said, if you need / want to install the driver, find it here:

I uninstalled HPSA and reinstalled it. The red exclamation mark has gone but I still cannot install the updates due to laptop screen being smaller than the HP messasges. But for now I will leave well alone. Thank you.

You are welcome.

"Well enough" is "good enough" in this case, I think.

The printer software is older (version and functionality) - might as well take care of it if / when you need to do so.
