HP Support doesn't show drivers for my HP Officejet 5255 All-In-One printer. How can I find them?

So, I did the free upgrade from Windows 10 to 11, 64 bit. When I did, my Officejet 5255 all-in-one printer wouldn't communicate  with my laptop. I tried to download drivers from HP Support, but The drivers dont show up. I had to reinstall Windows 10 in order to use my printer. What to do?

Hello,

If you lose communication between the Windows 11 computer and your printer, you can follow the following procedure.

To address this incident, please follow the following procedure :
1. Uninstall printing software:

1. Unplug the USB cable at the back of the printer, if necessary.
2. On the keyboard, simultaneously tap the Windows flag and the R key. The Run window opens.
3. Type appwiz.cpl, then OK. The Programs and Features window opens.
4. Click the right mouse button on HP OfficeJet 5200 series Basic Software, then Uninstall and Yes.

   Note: If the software uninstall process does not start or an error displays while uninstalling, download Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed from the Microsoft website, and then try uninstalling again.

5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the uninstall of the printer.
6. Restart the computer.

2. Launch the registry editor:

1. On the keyboard, simultaneously tap the Windows flag and the R key. The Run window opens.
2. Type regedit, then OK. The registry editor opens.
3. Develop HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SOFTWARE, click with the right mouse button on Hewlett-Packard and Delete. (If the PC is HP-branded, develop Hewlett-Packard and remove Digital Imaging)

3. Delete the HP OfficeJet 5200 series folder in the way:

• C: \Program Files\HP
• C:\Program Files (x86)\HP

4. Rename folder 3 in 3_old in the path below (a restart may be required):

• C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64.
• C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\W32X86.

NOTE: If the file refuses this action do as follows:

On the keyboard, tap the Windows and R keys simultaneously. The Run window opens.

• Type net stop spooler, then press OK.
• Rename the file.
• Type net start spooler, then tap OK.

5. Start a new printer installation via HP OfficeJet 5200 series Full Software and Drivers.

Within the HP Support page you can find the same driver as above in the Software-Utility (3) section under the name "HP OfficeJet 5200 All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories".

Seems odd.

No idea why you could not find / access - The full driver printer software is available for this printer and Windows 11.

For those reading,

"Upgrading" tends to kill some installed software.

The printer software, in particular is vulnerable to an in-place "upgrade" or sudden change in the version of the installed Operating System (Windows).

The general fix:

Uninstall the printer software > Restart the computer > Install new copy of the printer software.

If not done - optional

Windows key (Start) > Search (type and search) for word Control > Pin the Control Panel to Start and / or Taskbar

Next,

Download and Save the Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software installation package to your computer

Uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Restart the computer and sign in

Download / Save / Install a fresh copy of the full driver printer software

Restart the computer and sign in

Make sure your VPN is switched Off when installing software.

When the full driver printer software is installed,

Find the printer software listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.

The installation of the full printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.

The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools

HP Scan is named for itself and provides a direct call to the HP Scan software.

Uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Restart the computer and log in

What if?

If software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and is “still hanging around” after you uninstall / Restart...

Microsoft:  Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

Revo Uninstaller (Free version)

Restart the computer and log in

Reminder:  If using USB, disconnect the USB printer cable between the printer and the computer before installing software.  (Re)Connect the USB cable when instructed to do so near the end of the installation procedure.

• Open File Explorer
• Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
• Reminder:  If using USB cable between printer and computer, disconnect the cable before installing software.
• Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator”
• If using Easy Start > When asked, opt for "Full Driver" (exact wording might vary).
• If using Easy Start > Skip any extra software / offers you do not want (wording varies).
• After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in
