Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Was on pcl6-x64-6.9.0.24630.  Tried updating to pcl6-x64-7.0.1.24923.  Started getting a "the certificate validation failed..." error with option to Continue or Abort.  Continue throws an error on the printer itself saying something about a Personality missing.  Version pcl6-x64-7.0.0.24832 does the same thing.  Rolled back to pcl6-x64-6.9.0.24630 and everything is fine.  This is happening across several models including M401dne.

Server 2012R2

Windows 10 20H2 mostly.  Mine is 21H2.

Papercut is installed on the print server, also.

Hi,

Please open the printer EWS page by accessing its IP address from your browser and open the Network tab, there select Certificates.

View the status of the existing Printer Certificate, does it valid and have a future expiration date?

If not, click on Configure and Create a New Self-Signed Certificate for the printer, then check for any difference.

So you expect me to do this for 100 printers?  Some of them 10 years old?  Yes the certificate is expired.  That shouldn't have anything to do with the process of printing.

I did create a new certificate and still get the same error.

The odd thing is that I rolled back the UPD and all the other printers started working again.  This one would act like it was printing but nothing would happen.  I delete the printer and re-created it.  It's still throwing this error with the rolled back UPD.

Well, trying to offer any step to try, I surely doesn't expect you to do this for 100 printers when I can't even know this fact, I do rely on the information provided by you 🙂

Please remember that this is a peer to peer community, I'm trying to assist you as I can during my private time and not on behalf of HP, so would appreciate an appropriate and respective reply.

The specific printer, does it print from other computers or this behavior of no printing done occurs when trying to print from multiple computers?

Can you successfully print an internal configuration report from this specific printer?

Press the right arrow button until Reports is displayed
- Press the OK button
- Press the right arrow button until Configuration Report is displayed
- Press the OK button

I can print any reports on the printer.  I can print from other machines that are using 6.9 UPD, not 7.0 or 7.1.  7.0 and 7.1 give me this error.  I deleted all the UPD references using the installer for the UPD, but still getting this on MY machine and at least one other machine is getting this same error.  I believe two of them.  Several others are fine after reverting the driver to 6.9.  So they HAD this issue, but it has since cleared up.  On MY machine, I made sure to remove the UPD drivers from the Windows Driver Store and rebooted last night to see if that helped.  As of today, I'm still getting this error when I try to print to that printer.

If I add a different printer that is HP, I get this error, as well.  So the three machines that are having this error, can't print to ANY HP printer.  At this point, I moving to 7.0 or 7.1 are out of the question as that affects EVERYONE in the company.  Right now, I just need to fix these three machines having the issue, but not sure what to do past removing the driver from the Driver Store.

Short answer, it's only happening on 3 machines at this time, but they can't print to ANY HP printer.

If I use 7.0 or 7.1 NO ONE can't print to ANY HP printer.  It appears that something remains of 7.0 or 7.1 on these 3 machines, but not sure where since I removed from the Driver Store.

EDIT:  One machine is fine.  I deleted the queue and she re-added it.  The jobs were just disappearing into nowhere.  On my machine, I eventually couldn't install an HP printer anymore so abandoned it for a machine I was waiting to move to anyway.  Which leaves me with one machine having this issue, still.  I still need to find out the cause and fix for future releases, or, I assume it will never be fixed as it the same issue across two different sets of drivers.  Not sure why we're seeing that and no one else has.

I ran the 6.9 install, told it to Remove all Universal Drivers, and to NOT add the UPD to the Driver Store.  Then re-installed the printer from the server and my problems went away.

I tried variations of that before, but none have been successful.  This was after many other attempts, so not sure if it was something else in between, but that did the trick.  Now, how to prevent this in the future, other than never upgrade?

I have been experiencing the same problems here - the 7.x series UPD seems to be totally broken - could not get it to print at all and went back to  6.x

Trying to remove the driver always results in  "could not remove package hpcu255u.inf. Package is currently in use" which is wrong, because I removed all HP printer instances.

Maybe this is also related to the infamous Microsoft "print nightmare" update?... who knows...
