I am on a Mac.  I haven't used HP Utility-Officejet Pro 8600 for a long time.  I tried to scan to email and was asked for a password.  What password might that be?  I tried the HP password I used to log on to this forum and for other HP website uses but that isn't it.  I tried every normal password I use.  No luck.  Is it a special one HP assigns?  There is no retrieval/reset function offered in the box requesting the  password.  What can I do next?

@neoflyer, Welcome to HP Support Community!

HP does not assign any password for the scanning or printing functionalities on the printer. The password could be the one set during the Scan to email set up. If you do not remember the password, I would recommend you go through the set up again from scratch.

Here is how you can do it-

  1. From the Go menu, click Utilities, click the Hewlett-Packard folder and then double-click HP Utility. The main HP Utility screen displays.

  2. In the main HP Utility screen, access the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) using one of the following methods:

    • In the Printer Settings area, click Additional Settings, and then click Open Embedded Web Server.

    • In the Scan Settings area, click Scan to Email, and then click Begin Scan to Email Setup.

Refer to the document https://support.hp.com/si-en/document/c03953891 for help. (This document speaks of the scan to email set up for laserjet printers, which is similar to that of Officejet printers)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
