Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I bought the HP ENVY 6120e to remplace my 6 year old HP Envy 3200series all in one. The 3200 provided excellent service , hence my staying with the Envy range.

I have connected the 6120e to my Wi-Fi network (blue light is on steadily). However my iMac cannot detect the printer on the HP app!   I’ve tried searching for an undetected printer via the model name, the IP address and even the serial number. I have reset the printer Wi-Fi connection. All to no avail!

can anyone help please. BTW. The printer prints out lovely clear reports from it touchscreen.

Hi @Richard_Brown1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

First off, thank you for being such a loyal HP Envy user! It’s wonderful to hear your old Envy 3200 served you well for six years. That’s a testament to your care and the printer’s reliability. I can imagine how frustrating it feels when your shiny new 6120e connects perfectly to Wi-Fi (that steady blue light is like a calm ocean wave), but your iMac just won’t see it. Let’s fix that so your HP inkjet sidekick can team up with your Apple ecosystem seamlessly.

Here are the steps to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Confirm Network Setup

  • Ensure your iMac and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network (same SSID).
  • If your router has dual-band (2.4 GHz & 5 GHz), connect both devices to the same band. HP printers often prefer 2.4 GHz.

Step 2: Restart Devices

  • Power cycle your printer, iMac, and router.
  • Wait 60 seconds before turning them back on. This clears any network handshake issues.

Step 3: Update HP App

  • On your iMac, open the App Store and check for updates to the HP app.
  • Outdated versions can fail to detect printers.

Step 4: Add Printer via IP

  • Open HP app > Add Printer > Advanced Settings.
  • Enter the printer’s IP address (found on the printer touchscreen under Network Settings).
  • If it still fails, proceed to Step 5.

Step 5: Reset the HP app & Reinstall

Step 6: Check macOS Permissions

  • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access.
  • Ensure HP Smart has permission.
  • Also, check Firewall settings, temporarily disable if blocking the HP app.

Step 7: Update Printer Firmware

  • On the printer touchscreen: Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.
  • Or visit Official HP® Support and enter your model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi  Vikram, you are a star!

I followed the steps you gave me.  Rebooted the printer and computer. Check the app was up to date. All good

I also wrote down the host name, just in case….

In the HP app, install new printer didn’t work. It couldn’t locate the printer.  So, I tried find existing printer and BINGO!

The host name came up in the app, then an image of the printer, ink status and a message that set up is incomplete.  I clicked the message which woke up the printer etc.

All is good….

A quick note,  The set up paused, while the printer downloaded a firmware update.

Im going though final set up steps. Need to enter printer PIN.  Etc ….

Hi Vikram,

All is working extremely well with the printer.  I am very happy with the sharp print quality of my Christmas card labels.

I established a connection between the printer and my phone very quickly.  I test printed a screen shot from the phone, and was delighted that the printer app automatically resized the screen shot to A4.  The print quality of text and image in the screenshot was excellent.

All is good.

Many thanks.

Richard

Hi @Richard_Brown1,

That’s wonderful to hear! 🎉
I’m really glad everything is running smoothly now, and even happier that the print quality and mobile printing exceeded your expectations. A4 auto-resize working perfectly on the first try is always a great sign.

If you ever need help with anything else, settings, maintenance tips, or even preparing more holiday labels, feel free to reach out anytime. Enjoy the great printing experience!

Take care and have an amazing day!
