Why is the new HP App so awful?  It isn't event finished - there's no HP Smart Printing as a printer choice. And the front screen is crowded with rubbish, you have to scroll down before you can even see/click on a button that does something.

Have deleted and re-installed HP smart

Hi @Philip_A1

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand the frustration. Based on the HP information provided, the HP app replaces HP Smart, and when the new HP app is available for your device, HP Smart is obsolete and cannot be re-installed. I will take this as a feedback and forward it to the specialized team regarding the concern.

What HP says about this change

  1. HP app replaces HP Smart
HP states the new HP app combines features from HP Smart and myHP into one app for setup, management, printing, scanning, copying, faxing, support, and subscriptions.
  2. HP Smart Printing printer choice might no longer appear separately
HP says features and solutions from HP Smart are now found on the Device details page in the HP app.
  3. You might need to re-add your printer
If HP Smart was uninstalled before installing the HP app, HP says you need to add the printer again using the plus sign and Add Existing.
  4. Saved files from HP Smart moved
Open the HP app, select your printer if needed, scroll down, and select Print documents to access previous files.

STEP-by-STEP: What you can try

  1. Open the HP app.
  2. Select your printer from the home screen.
  3. Open the Device details page to look for printer features that were previously in HP Smart.
  4. If your printer is missing, click the plus sign to add a device.
  5. Select Add Existing or choose your available printer, then follow the prompts.
  6. If you need older saved items, scroll down and select Print documents.
  7. If the HP app is not available for your operating system or country/region, continue using HP Smart if it is still available on your device.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
