When I go to scan a document on my Mac using the macOS Catalina using the HP Easy Scan software, I get an error message when I try to scan using my flatbed scanner. I went in the edited my scanning options and selected to scan using the flatbed scanner. When I click on the scan button I receive the message below:

Automatic Document Feeder is Empty

No items were detected in the Automatic Document Feeder. Please place your originals into the Automatic Document Feeder and start the scan again.

When I use the Scan options in the System preferences, I can scan my documents without a problem. However, this scan option does not have the options that I need to transfer my documents in what I need; It just scans as an image.

Could you please fix the software so work property. I have a desk IMac with the same OS system, and the software does work.

Hi @kperaltag

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

HP Easy Scan is not yet compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina. We're actively working to restore complete functionality. I suggest using HP Smart app or Apple Image capture to scan from your MAC. Kindly refer to this document to know how.

Refer to this document for more info on HP Easy Scan.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your Answer.

I will try to work with Image Capture. However, How I can know when the software will be ready to work in Catalina 10.15. I ask because I was thinking of buying a new printer (HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw), but I think that I will have the same scan problem due to the software. Is this write, or do you think that by changing my printer, I will be able to scan with the easy scan app or this new printer have a new app that I can use without a problem in Cataline 10.15?

Thank you for your help.

@kperaltag, thank you for the response.

You will have the same issue with scanning while using the HP Easy Scan on any printer you use on macOS 10.15 Catalina. HP will release a document and a notification on the HP Support site once an updated version of the HP Easy Scan is released.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

macOS 10.15.3 (released 1/28/2020) contains the fix for HP Easy Scan.  Once updated HP Easy Scan will be able to scan from the glass or the ADF as normal.

Scan to Computer is also fixed with 10.15.3.

I did notice that if the printer is in sleep mode, some times an error will be reported.  But if you wake the printer by inserting a page in the ADF or touching the screen you will be able to scan normally.
