Hi @robanob ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Easy Scan stops communicating with your HP Envy 5020 printer on macOS Sonoma 14.5, there are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your MacBook Pro and the HP Envy 5020 printer.

Update macOS and HP Software:

  • Ensure your macOS is up to date. Go to System Preferences > Software Update.
  • Update the HP Easy Scan software to the latest version from the App Store or HP's official website.

Reinstall HP Easy Scan:

  • Delete the HP Easy Scan app from your Applications folder.
  • Reinstall it from the Mac App Store or download the latest version from HP’s official website.

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your MacBook.
  • If using a USB connection, try reconnecting the cable or using a different USB port.

Reset Printing System:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click in the printer list and select Reset printing system. This will remove all printers and scanners.
  • Re-add your HP Envy 5020 by clicking the + button and following the prompts.

HP Smart App:

  • Download and install the HP Smart app from the App Store. This app can sometimes resolve communication issues and provide more robust scanning capabilities.

Check for Driver Updates:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
  • Download and install any available firmware and driver updates for macOS Sonoma.

Firewall and Security Settings:

  • Check your firewall and security settings to ensure they are not blocking the communication between your Mac and the printer.
  • Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall and make sure it's configured to allow communication with your printer.

Check HP Utility:

  • Open HP Utility from your Applications folder.
  • Ensure your printer is listed and check its status.

Printer Reset:

  • Perform a hard reset on your printer. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

Refer to this document: HP ENVY 5020 All-in-One Printer User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
