After using the printer for years, AND on Windows 11, Windows decided it would no longer support the printer. Software install, Driver Install, and Manual install directly from Windows all FAIL. Is HP going to fix this issue or are we now at the mercy of Microsoft?

Hi @Whyme66
Some of the last Windows Updates is breaking printer drivers, this is a new policy enforced by Microsoft, why, I don't know ? 🤔
First try to install the next software update for Deskjet 4255 printer:
HP DeskJet 4200 series EasyStart Printer Setup Software with PSA
date: Sept, 30, 2026 - version 17.6.9
- Check if the printer is installing and working with that software.
But you can also try the next steps:
1. For alternative install the basic drivers for Deskjet printers:
- HP Smart Universal Printer driver:
- >> https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/SUPD/SUPD-6.03.1.4143-V4-Win11-x64.zip
- HP PCL6 driver:
- >> https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL39348/lj-95981-14/upd-pcl6-x64-6.4.1.22169.exe
2. Once installed, Restart your computer.
3. After restart you need to add printer in
- Windows > Settings > Printers & scanners > Add device button
