@eamonthomas wrote:Product: DeskJet 2260Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11I bought a printer off Facebook marketplace and I tried to enroll in instant ink but it gives me the error GCAG001.
Instead of cancelling, the previous owner might have simply dumped the printer (sold, sent to charity).
From what I've observed, "dump and run" is a common practice.
Most importantly -
I do not find a DeskJet 2260
OLD printer?
Mystery printer might not be eligible for Instant Ink.
The following is relevant to supported printer that is eligible for Instant Ink
Did printer come with Ink?
If the printer came with Ink cartridges, and if those cartridges are Subscription / Instant Ink, the cartridges cannot be used with the printer.
At the very least, the printer will need to have all Instant Ink cartridges removed and a new set of HP ink cartridges installed.
True -- Economy printers can easily cost more to use than to purchase.
What?
Subscription cartridges cannot be used outside of an active subscription.
AND
Subscription cartridges lock after the contract is terminated by either the subscriber or by HP.
What else?
Unfortunately, you cannot transfer an Instant Ink subscription contract from a previous owner.
If you print enough every month to make it worth doing, it might be worth subscribing.
True - You will need help from an HP agent to remove an old contract from the printer.
Following is what you need to know about subscribing to Instant Ink.
The contact information is also included -
If you want to skip all the details,
Scroll down to "Your faster option"
Personally, I do recommend that while you do need help to remove the old contract, that after that is done, (that) you only enroll after you understand the service.
Reminder for those reading --
The Instant Ink Subscription Service contract is OPTIONAL.
AND
Please do Read about the service before enrolling.

The "free trial" is a set period during which you are not charged the monthly fee for your plan.
True, should you go over your plan page limit, you are charged per set for "X" sets of pages as used.
Ink is included at no extra charge - this is true regardless of the plan you select.
10 pages or 700 pages - Ink is included as part of the plan.
Reminder
HP Instant Ink service is a legal contract --
There are obligations and responsibilities for both HP and you, the customer.

What is an Instant Ink Promotion / Trial ?
The offer is generally for a one month or longer trial to HP Instant Ink subscription service.
To get the trial, you must sign up, select a plan, and commit to the print-by-page subscription model.
An HP Instant Ink subscription is a contact for service - ink is included in that service.
The trial is a suspension of the monthly plan costs during the trial period.
The printer must be connected to the Internet (Web Services) during the Trial and for the duration of the contract. Connection is used by service to monitor plan usage status and by the printer to request ink.

What is "Free Ink"?
There is no extra cost for ink.
Ink is provided as part of your subscription - use a drop or use a cup full, ink is included at no extra cost.
Important
After the initial Ink Kit is mailed out, ink is sent (only) when the printer notifies the service that ink is depleted and a shipment is needed.
- All ink activated by the plan and all ink sent to you works as along as the trail / subscription service is active.
and
- Subscription / Instant Ink remains the property of HP and should be returned to HP at close (termination) of the service contract.

Who Benefits?
Instant Ink is an excellent service for those who print regularly, print high-density documents or artwork, or perhaps print lots of homework. For example, those who benefit the most include Teachers, musicians, writers who like hard copy, large families, small business offices, community centers, churches, and others who love -- or need -- to print on paper.
--------------------------------------------------------------
It is important that you understand the Instant Ink cancellation / termination process and your responsibilities.
