Hi @sahejpreet,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand you're having trouble installing your HP LaserJet 1020 printer on a MacBook Air M2 running macOS 15.5 (Sonoma). We appreciate the opportunity to clarify the situation.

Driver Availability for macOS 15.5

The HP LaserJet 1020 is a legacy printer, and HP does not provide official macOS drivers for this model on macOS 15.5 or newer, including Apple Silicon systems such as the MacBook Air M2.

Additionally, this model does not support Apple AirPrint, which means it will not work with macOS’s built-in AirPrint functionality either.

Workaround Options

1. Use a Generic macOS Driver

You can attempt to install the printer using a generic driver, which may enable basic printing functionality:

  1. Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Click Add Printer (the “+” button).
  3. Select your HP LaserJet 1020 from the list.
  4. In the "Use" field, choose:
    • Generic PostScript Printer, or
    • Generic PCL Printer
  5. Click Add.

Please note: This workaround may not support all features and is considered a basic solution.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
