I recently updated my MacBook Pro to Sequoia, 15.4.1. And since then my OfficeJet, pro 9020 printer no longer works. I have unpaired it in the settings from the printer and re-added it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app from the Mac store. When I tried to open the smart app for HP, it immediately shuts down. I have tried all of the suggestions that I have seen to do, and none of it has worked.

P.S. HP, Sequoia is the newest Mac operating system and you all do not have it listed in the operating system drop-down menu. Which tells me that you all are likely the problem.

Hi @heathab,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Ensure macOS is Up-to-date:

  • Go to System Preferences > Software Update and ensure that your macOS is fully updated.

Uninstall Previous HP Software:

  • Completely uninstall any previous HP software and drivers.
    • Go to Applications > HP and run the HP Uninstaller.
    • Alternatively, look for and remove any HP-related files and printers in System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.

Remove Printer from Printers & Scanners:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select the HP OfficeJet Pro 9020, and click the minus (-) button to remove it.

Reset Printing System:

  • In the Printers & Scanners window, right-click or control-click in the printer list and select Reset printing system....
  • This will remove all printers and clear the print queue.

Download Latest HP Drivers and Software:

  • Go to the HP Support Page for the OfficeJet Pro 9020.
  • Download and install the latest full-feature software and drivers.

Reinstall HP Smart App:

Re-add the Printer:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click the plus (+) button to add the printer.
  • Choose your HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 from the list.

Check Network Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer and your MacBook Pro are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Test the Printer:

  • Open any document and attempt to print to make sure the printer is functioning correctly.

HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Although this tool is primarily for Windows, you might consider checking for HP-specific troubleshooting tools or updates specifically for macOS on the HP Support Page.

Check for HP Smart App Updates:

  • Occasionally, the App Store may not immediately show all available updates. Open the App Store, go to Updates, and check if there’s an update pending for the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.
