I am trying to set up my new HP office jet pro 9730e printers but receive an error " New Cartridges Required - New, unused cartridges must be used to start up the printhead. Replace the indicated cartridges to complete startup." I am using the set up cartridges out of the box but they are not working. I can't proceed with the setup process.

Hi @despradel01,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e is experiencing a common setup issue where it doesn't recognize the setup cartridges as new, preventing initialization. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this.
Reinsert Cartridges: Remove the setup cartridges and check for any protective tape still on the cartridge contacts or ink nozzles. Make sure they’re clean, then carefully reinsert them.
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait about 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in, turn it on, and try setting up the cartridges again.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
Factory Reset:
- If you haven’t tried a factory reset, go to the printer’s menu and select the option for factory reset (if accessible in setup mode). This may prompt it to reinitialize and recognize the setup cartridges.
Update Firmware:
- If possible, connect the printer to a network and check for any firmware updates from HP that may fix cartridge recognition issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
