HP Officejet 4500
macOS 10.15 Catalina

I have had no known issues with my printer and mac until today. I keep getting a malware error message when trying to print. I have uninstalled and re-installed the printer and also tried using the IP address and generic IPP as a bypass, but that didn't work either. There are a lot of other Mac users experiencing the same issue, but with different series of HP printers. PLS HELP. I need this printer for work. I used it days ago with no problems.

Same here,  can't print to my officejet since yesterday. I can still print from any other device but the Mac.

I have tried to reinstall the hp software, during installation it said the source is not trusted but I continued anyway.

But didn't help.

I have tried removing the printer but now I can't add it again. It says the mac can't communicate with it.

The solution is to download (and install) this package which will update drivers AND THE CERTIFICATE:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essen...

Easy Admin did nothing. Easy Startup did nothing. 5.1 drivers did nothing. This worked for me!

If this solved your issue, please thumbs up and mark as solved!

Thanks @BryanCustomPure
Unfortunately it still doesn't work.

While installing this package I got the following error: "HPDM.framework will damage your computer"

It finished installation and when I am trying to add the printer I am getting this message again.

And the printer installation fails with the same original message: "An error occurred while trying to add the selected device"

I have tried to restart the Mac and now when I tried to add the printer I am getting another warning (beside the first one):

“Inkjet1.driver” will damage your computer.

Looks like MacOs detects this software package as Malware.

Any idea?

Remove the devices using System Preferences/Printers & Scanners

Then install the package.

Then try to install the device via Printers & Scanners again. Let me know what happens.

Hi!

I am also having the same problem. I removed the devices using System Preferences, and then installed the package and restarted the laptop. When I tried to add the printer it still said  “HPDM.framework” will damage your computer.

What else can I do?

😞

Uninstall in Printers & Scanners. Then install the 5.1 driver package from HP: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US

Then restart. Then try to install. Let me know what happens.

Unfortunately I am still having trouble. I followed your instructions. The same message popped up many times (“HPDM.framework” will damage your computer) even during the installation of the driver package. I restarted my computer as  suggested too.

If it prints anyway, try deleting the file it doesn't like and see if it still prints.

I have installed the driver suggested, now I could connect to the printer and print.

However, the message “HPDM.framework” will damage your computer keeps jumping all the time.

Also, now the HP utility also jumps a message saying: "Some HP Utility components were not found" Please reinstall the software that came with your device.
