A weak, outdated, poorly located, router is the bane of any network.
If you can do so, Update / upgrade outdated tech.

If Ethernet is an option, use that -- best, too, to use an assigned IP address to improve stability and give the printer a way "back to the network" if it is disconnected.
If forced to use Wireless,
- Consider using an assigned (manual / static) IP address to improve stability.
-- What about driver options? --
This printer supports a number of full driver printer options.
Find your printer's software on the printer's own Software & Drivers webpage.
Unfortunately, The full driver is encased in an "Easy Start" wrapper -- the good news is that the "Offline" type of Easy Start includes the actual software -- no searching for software or answering questions about which driver you want to install.

- The full driver provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences (Shortcuts, Presets) and preferred settings.
- The full driver -- and the optional standalone installation of HP Universal Scan Software -- both include HP Scan. HP Scan understands and supports the concept of Preferred Shortcut selection and Custom Shortcuts.
- The HP Smart Universal Printing Driver understands the concepts of Presets, Custom Settings, and a variety of job settings not found in other drivers.
- Printer Properties includes settings for the preferred Driver and All Job Defaults
- Default Printer settings include methods to control which device is selected as the default printer.

When available ...
The Offline Use Only, Print and Scan Driver, or similarly named installation web packs can be used in either a network‑connected or USB‑connected environment.
The name of the installation file depends on the printer model and the type of packaging.
This method includes the printer software in the installation package; hence the much larger file size.
You need not answer questions about which driver or type of printer software to select and install.
Using USB?
Be sure to unplug the USB cable between the printer and the computer before loading the software.
Re-connect the USB cable when instructed to do so, generally near the end of the successful installation of the printer software.
