My printer keeps trying to download an update and is unsuccessful. Gives two options, retry or ok. Neither fixes the issue and then it loops again and does it again 10 minutes later. I've tried a factory reset, deleting the printer from my pc and reloading it and also updating drivers. Nothing is stopping the error

Have the same issue.

You will need to deactivate auto updates. Until HP finds the fix for this 8/17/2023 download Firmware update issue

  • Press ? on printer display
  • Then pressing "home" then "return" button (and remembering where the return and home buttons are) a few times until "Enable Disable Menu" is displayed on top of printer screen.
  • Select "Enable Disable Menu"
  • Then select Firmware Update & slide option to OFF position, press "return" button to exit. This will completely disable all printer updates.

However, you may set firmware updates to Notify you going forward instead of auto update by continuing the following steps:

  1. Complete "Enable Disable Menu" procedure a second time
  2. Then select Firmware Update & slide option to ON position, press "return" button to exit. This will notify you all printer updates going forward

I am having the same issue with the same printer. I only noticed it on 8/18/2023.

I tried pressing the "?" button (bottom right), then pressing the home button (bottom center), then pressing the bottom left corner where the "return" button was located on the previous screen even though no button is shown after pressing "home".

I repeated that sequence several times (about 10) until eventually "Support Menu" was shown as the only option.

According to the instructions, I am expecting "Enable Disable Menu" to be shown at this point, but I never saw it.

Any suggestions?

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/Printer-keeps-trying-to-download-update... describes a similar issue that occurred a few months ago and it suggests a Semi-full Reset with the warning that performing that step on a different printer may brick the device. I have located the "Semi-full Reset" option under the "Support Menu" on my Hp Officejet Pro 9010. How can I tell if that's a viable option without the risk of bricking my printer?

Thanks so much for your instructions!  After spending hours trying to stop the update download from looping, I found your solution. It took only a few minutes to understand and implement your instructions regarding how to find the "Enable Disable Menu" and turn off the "Firmware Update".  Wish I had found sooner!!

As I described in my earlier post, I misunderstood the instructions and pressed the sequence of all 3 button positions (Help, Home, Return) repeatedly about 10 times and I got the "Support Menu" menu as shown instead of the "Enable/Disable Menu" that I expected. After rereading the instructions I realized that I was only supposed to press the Help button once at the beginning, then alternate between the Home and Return button positions 3 or 4 times. When I did that, I was able to  follow the rest of the procedure to disable the automatic updates.

I'm posting this follow-up in case anyone else misreads the instructions as I did. Also, this is to document the procedure to access the other hidden "Support Menu" that I stumbled across.

Thanks for the help.
