I followed the directions. Downloaded the 5600 driver. Changed the port to USB001.
When I print, it prints pages and pages and pages of nothing but one line of gibberish across the top. I'm not sure how many pages it will print, I was finally able to stop it after about 20 the first attempt. I've tried several times, including deleting the device and starting over but the same thing happens every time.

You know how I solved the problem once and for all? I just went out and bought a new $20 printer and had it shipped to my house for free.
I'm doing this from now on instead of buying ink.

I recenlty upgraded to windows 7 and needed to reload many programs. I have misplaced my installation CDs for my HP Photosmart 7660. I was able to download the driver, but without this CD the printer does not work. Can I download this installation inflrmation from HP?

So to anyone who has an HP Photosmart 7660, I have solved the issue of making the printer work on Windows 7. Go to start, go to printer and devices. Click add printer, choose LPT1 as the port, select HP then choose Deskjet 5600 (HPA) (HP), install it once it is finished click finish don't choose print page. Now right click on the printer, and choose printer properties. Go to Ports, now here is where HP made there problem. They say change the port from LPT1 to Dot 4, or the largest port. They are wrong, choose USB001 Virtual printer port for USB, now go to the General Tab,click on print test page and you're in business!!!!!!! (This is not my solution it's on page 1 but worked flawlessly when followed exactly)
