Hi @Click2Karth

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Here are the exact steps you can follow to resolve the installation failure for your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M128fn printer on Windows:

Step 1: Remove Failed Installation

  • Open Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  • Uninstall any existing HP printer software related to the M128fn.
  • Restart the computer after uninstalling.

Step 2: Clear Printer Devices

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Remove the M128fn printer if it appears in the list.
  • Disconnect the USB cable from the printer if it is connected.

Step 3: Prepare System

  • Ensure Windows is fully updated.
  • Temporarily disable any antivirus or firewall software during installation.
  • Log in with administrator rights.

Step 4: Use HP App

  • Download and install the HP App from the Microsoft Store.
  • Open the HP App and select Set up a new printer.
  • Connect the printer via USB or ensure it is on the same network if using Ethernet.

Step 5: Manual Driver Installation

If the HP App setup does not complete:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Locate the printer under Other devices or Printers.
  • Right-click and select Update driver.
  • Choose Browse my computer for drivers and point to the extracted driver folder from the HP software package.

Step 6: Test Printing

  • Once installed, print a test page from Devices and Printers.
  • Re-enable antivirus or firewall software.

Step 7: If Installation Still Fails

  • Run the Diagnose & Fix tool from the HP App.
  • This will automatically check for driver conflicts, connectivity issues, and repair the installation.
